What does Backpack Society do?

Backpack Society is a food bank based in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. We feed kids on weekends and breaks when they are away from school provided meals. We're a great place to volunteer, donate food or funds and get food assistance.

Backpack Society is a great place to volunteer in your community. We serve Douglas County and Arapahoe County in Colorado, including Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Roxborough, Sedalia, Littleton, Centennial and Englewood.

How can I volunteer?

You can sign up to volunteer on our website under the "Get Involved" tab, or click here.

Do you require an application before volunteering?

Is an orientation required before signing up to volunteer?

No. Simply sign up on our website for the spot(s) that work for you. When you arrive, if it's your first time, we will give you a quick tour & review what you'll be doing that day.

I'd like to volunteer with a group. Can you help me get that set up?

Yes. Each person volunteering may sign up for their own shift. If you have a larger group, please email volunteer@backpacksociety.org & we'll work with you to set up a fun volunteer event.

Are kids allowed to volunteer?

Yes. Kids 5 and older may volunteer. If a child is under 13 years old, they should be accompanied by an adult.

What should I wear when I volunteer in the pantry?

Dress in comfortable clothes that you can move in easily. For your safety, close-toed shoes are required.

Can I volunteer on the weekend or after school/work?

We have many volunteer opportunities at different times of the day & some are after school & work hours. Click here to see our volunteer spots.

How to Donate Food to Backpack Society

Whether you live in Douglas County, Littleton or Englewood Colorado, Backpack Society is a great place to donate food. Your donation to the Backpack Society food bank stays in the community and provides assistance to our neighbors.

I'd like to schedule a food drive to support your organization. Can someone reach out to me?

Where and how can I donate food?
-
We have a bin located outside our front door at 213 W. County Line Road, Highlands Ranch. You're welcome to leave shelf-stable food in the bin 24hrs a day. If it needs refrigeration or is a large amount, please email us at info@backpacksociety.org to arrange a time for drop-off. Click here for a list of our most needed items.

Donate Funds - Monetary donations allow us to buy food we aren't able to obtain through donations or our partners. It also allows us to do things like pay the rent and utilities. To make a one time or ongoing donations click here.

I can't pick up the Family Food Box on Thursdays. Can someone deliver the food to my house?

Unfortunately, we are not able to deliver Family Food Boxes. However, you are welcome to have a family member or friend pick up the box for you.
