How It Works

This program is for children who take part in the Federally Subsidized Free or Reduced Lunch Program. We partner with local grocery stores and food banks to fill our backpacks using the generous donations from our community. The backpacks are delivered to the school every week on the last day before the weekend. The child will return the backpack the following week and exchange it for a full backpack. With both the parent's and child's help, the program is more sustainable and helps keep costs low. It's good for the environment too!

We understand receiving free food can be embarrassing and we don't want a child to go without. We work with the school to make the pickup process as quick and anonymous as possible. The last thing we want is to draw attention to the children. With that in mind, our backpacks are not marked with the hope they will blend in.

Sample Menu:

Breakfast - Instant Oatmeal, Fruit Cup

Lunch - Chef Boyardee, Can of Corn

     Dinner - Ramen, Cookies

Breakfast - Fruit & Grain Bar, Raisins

Lunch - Easy Mac, Can of Green Beans

Dinner - Can of Soup, Pudding

Did you know it costs $5.50 a week for a child to have food for the entire weekend?

That's only $198 for the entire school year!

We are working hard with our partners to reduce the cost so we can

supply even more items in our backpacks every week.
